MHS School Site Council Introduction & Call for 25-26 Nomination of Officers

Posted Date: 8/15/25 (3:01 PM)

Greetings MHS!

The MHS School Site Council (SSC) is an integral part of our school governance structure. It is a team comprised of school staff, parents, and students to look at the school's data and school information, identify student needs and areas for improvement, and participate in the monitoring of our School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and safety.

We are looking for interested individuals to serve on this year's school SSC as an elected officer. Please respond to this Parent Square message (or email me directly: cmcmurra@musd.orgto nominate yourself or someone else who may be interested for one of the available positions for the 25-26 school year:

  • Chairperson (facilitates the meetings, suggests/recommends agenda items for discussion at SSC, signs off on SPSA at the end of the school year, voting member of SSC)
  • Vice-Chairperson (steps in for Chairperson when s/he is unavailable or unable to attend SSC meeting, voting member of SSC)
  • Two members-at-large (voting members of SSC)
Also, each year an MHS parent/guardian/caregiver has the opportunity to serve as the MHS Community Board Advisory Council (CBAC) representative. The purpose of the Community Board Advisory Council is:
  • to improve communication with the community and the District by gathering and disseminating information;
  • to act as a sounding board for the Board of Education and the community; and
  • to review District issues, proposals, and budgetary reports, by responding to and/or initiating recommendations.
The Council meets monthly, in the evenings, with notice being sent to all members at least one week prior to the meeting date. Emergency meetings may be called with 24-hour notice by the chairperson.

All meetings of the Council are open to the public. As an ad hoc committee of the Board of Education, Council meetings are subject to the requirements of the Brown Act. The MHS CBAC representative attends our School Site Council meetings and shares a brief report of what was discussed at the CBAC meeting. If you would like to volunteer to be our 25-26 CBAC representative, please respond to this post (or email me directly: cmcmurra@musd.org).

If there is only one response, that person will serve as our CBAC representative. If there is more than one, I will send out a form for voting. (If there is more than one person attending CBAC in representation of MHS, only one designated person can cast a vote). Please let me know if you are interested.

Please respond by Friday, August 29, if you are interested. Once nominations are received an election form will be sent out for the election of our School Site Council officers. Our four elected officers will represent the Milpitas High School community and are the only individuals at SSC with voting rights. However, we encourage all community members (staff, students, parents/guardians) to attend our SSC meetings and to add their voices to our discussions and conversations.

Our first SSC meeting will take place on Thursday, September 11, at 5:30pm on Google Meet. More detailed information including the SSC meeting agenda and Google Meet link will be shared as we get closer to our first meeting. We hope you can join us.

Thank you.

Mr. McMurray, Assistant Principal
