Are you interested in another Summer opportunity to earn community service hours and help students with reading?! If you would like to be part of this wonderful experience fill out the attached flyer to be a volunteer at Rose Elementary School for their Elementary Summer Reading Program. You would have the opportunity to earn up to 54 hours!   

 

Details:

Dates:  June 12 - July 13 (Mon - Thurs, No Fridays).  No school on July 3rd and 4th.

Time:  9 AM - 12 PM

 

Commitment:  They are looking for between 8 - 10 students for the full session of the program; however, you would need to work out a schedule with the teacher whom you will be volunteering for.

 

Job Duties:  

-  Assist the elementary teacher in a classroom of anywhere between 15-25 2nd graders (incoming 3rd graders).

-  May include but not limited to reading books to the students or setting up the classroom activities for the teachers.

-  Various tasks as assigned by the teacher.

The Blue Ocean Entrepreneurship Convention is happening this Saturday at Flex Building 5, 847 Gibraltar Drive, Milpitas, CA 95035. They are looking for some more volunteers to come and help out with the Convention on Saturday from anytime within 8am to 5pm to earn community service hours. Students interested in volunteering should fill out the attached form.

 Milpitas Cares is an organization that works to bring the greater community together to help our schools and city over a nine day window.  It has become a tremendous success.  The event now has grown to include over 500 people and most every school in Milpitas.  This year the events will be growing even more with a request from the cities to help clean up our parks.

Looking to gain community service hours?  Marshall Pomeroy Elementary PTA is hosting its 5th annual Multicultural Festival and Carnival on Saturday, April 29, 2017.  MHS students are needed that day to volunteer with the festival from 9am to 4pm. Specific tasks will be assigned the day of the event but include set up, working the carnival and clean up.

Are you looking for Community Service Hours over the summer? Are you interested in working with students grades 1st through 8th? If you answered yes, then this opportunity is for you!

 

Every summer, Adult Ed runs the Summer Enrichment Program. The program provides enrichment activities (like a summer camp) for students entering grades 1-8. The program needs youth volunteers and MHS students have a great opportunity to help your community while gaining experience working with younger students, and getting Community Service hours for your time.  It will take place next door at Pomeroy school. 

 

Attached in the application form for the program that also has more details. It is due by April 17th and you can either directly turn it in to Thao Nguyen at Adult Education or you can turn it in to Ms. Brown in Room P-19 by lunch on April 17th. Please make sure it is completely filled out before turning it in.

If that is you then volunteers are needed for Sat  3/18/2017. Duties will include helping serve food in the snack shack and also  general assisting during the softball game. The shifts would be 2 hours but also flexible. They are looking for two people from 8:30am-10:30am and two people from 10:30-12:30 noon and 12:30- 2:30pm. 

They will provide an apron and name tag.

The PTSA is working with Comcast California to help our campus with a beautification project on the Comcast Cares Day on April 22, 2017.  See attached flyer for details.

 

On that day, Comcast will bring their employees and family volunteers to our school for the campus clean up and beautification projects.  As a volunteer you will help join them in taking care and cleaning up our campus!  All volunteers will receive a free T-Shirt and lunch on that day. 

 

If you attend you will get community service hours for helping make our school a better place!   In addition, Comcast will give MHS PTSA a grant based on the number of volunteers.  So we need as many volunteers as we can have on that day!!!

MCEE is looking for 10 volunteers to tutor at Weller from now until mid April (spring break). You must be able to:

  1. commit your time every Wednesday from approx. 2:15pm - 3:45pm
  2. get a recommendation from your math / english teacher that you are doing fine in their classes,
  3. get permission from your parents via the attached form, and 
  4. attend an orientation meeting, after school, location, time TBD.

SENIORS!!!!

 

Are you a Senior who has Senior Open 6th period and is interesting in a community service opportunity? Are you a responsible student who would be interested in tutoring middle schoolers in our district? 

Then there is a possible opportunity for you! Rancho Middle School is looking for Seniors to help their AVID classes with tutorials Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:05 to 2:55pm.  They are looking for about 10 tutors who would be willing to help their students through either google hang out or in person and guide them through their tutorials.

During this season there are many volunteer opportunities in and around the community.  Whether you choose to take part in an opportunity I have sent out or you find an event for you and your friends to participate in on your own, make sure to fill out the community service forms and get credit for the time you spend volunteering!  Remember that you do not need pre-approval however the community service you perform must meet the 4 pillars and adhere to what community service is.  You can take a look at the website to refresh your memory.  We are on the verge of December and that means if you are a senior and have not completed your 20 hours of community service you need to start that immediately! Check out the deadlines below.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE Fantasy of Lights at Vasona County Park!!!

 

Be a part of Santa Clara County Parks Department, Volunteer Program on 

Saturday December 3rd or Sunday December 4th

3:00pm – 10:00pm Each Night

 

Volunteers are needed for the 18th Annual Fantasy of Lights with Santa Clara County Parks! For two nights, Saturday December 3rd and Sunday December 4th we will open the event for a Walk-Thru Night, a 1.5 mile stretch of large animated displays, featuring over 5- themed displays and a 90 foot twinkling tree.  During this event individuals can volunteer from3:00pm to 10:00pm helping to direct visitors, welcoming them to the park, and other tasks throughout the evening.  All volunteers will receive a minimum of a one hour break during the shift, a meal, and a gift to show our appreciation.  The event ends at 9:00pm and volunteers will be relieved as the park is cleared.  Volunteers must be 16 years old or older.  For more information or to register as a volunteer please contact the Volunteer Program at volunteer@prk.sccgov.org or (408)918-4930.

MUSD needs OUTGOING and ENERGETIC students who are willing to attend community events and sports events , such as PAL football, little league, even our school concerts and sporting events.  The objective is to get more parent input on budget priorities in MUSD. If you are interested you would be doing this: 

  • use your phones or digital devices to provide access to online survey
  • set-up tables at the events with two district chromebooks as a survey post
  • share postcards with QR code access to the survey so parents can use their own phones to access the survey
  • create posters for the survey posts, maybe at ticket booths.

This work would take place at various events until Dec. 9th.   Ten teams of students, 2 to a team, are needed. They are looking for ideally 20 students to help with this.   If you are still interested after reading this, then you must attend a lunchtime meeting for more information on November 8th with our Interim Superintendent Ms. Cheryl Jordan.  Please send me your name and ID# if you are interested in attending the lunchtime meeting.  The meeting will take place in room P-19.

Pomeroy Elementary School next door needs your help!!!

 

There are two opportunities this week for community service hours.

 

On Thursday 10/27 from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM they need help unloading pumpkins and setting up the pumpkin patch.  They are in desperate need.  

 

The other is Friday 10/28 - They need help with a costume dance and they need help with both the event and decorating in the multi-use room.  

 Dance runs 5:30-8:30

SENIORS!!!!

 

Are you are Senior who has Senior Open 6th period and is interesting in a community service opportunity? Are you a responsible student who would be interested in tutoring middle schoolers in our district? 

Then there is a possible opportunity for you! Rancho Middle School is looking for Seniors to help their AVID classes with tutorials Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:05 to 2:55pm.  They are looking for about 10 tutors who would be willing to help their students through either google hang out or in person and guide them through their tutorials.

Weller Elementary will be having a carnival for Halloween on Friday, October 28th. "Falloween Festival"  

We would like to have High School volunteers for this event to help with the games and prize booth. It begins at 5pm but would like the helpers to arrive at Weller by 4:30pm to help with the set-up.

Schedule for the Evening
4:30pm - Volunteers arrive to help with the set-up
5:00pm - The games begin (We will have time shifts in the various positions so the students are not doing the same thing for two and a half hours)
7:30pm - Ending of the event. We will need help with clean-up
8:00pm - Community Service complete

Friday Oct. 14th by 6th period is the deadline to turn in community service hours that are guaranteed to appear on your transcripts for the fall.  The hours you turn in by Oct. 14th will be guaranteed to appear on your transcripts for anything you might be choosing to use them for, ie; college apps, jobs, etc.

This does not mean that ALL hours (20 hours needed for graduation or 150 to receive maroon chords) are due by then, just that if you want to make sure all your hours up until now appear on your transcript, turn them in by that date.  Do not wait! Come by before then and turn them in and check out my office hours.  You can continue to turn them in after that date however they are not guaranteed to appear on your transcript for fall.

The carnival will take place form Thursday Oct 27 in the afternoon, to the evening of Sunday Oct 30. It will be held in the Mervyns’ parking lot in Milpitas Town Center.

Thurs Oct 27 4pm - 10pm (6 hrs)

Fri Oct 28 4pm-11pm (7 hrs)

They will need about 4-6 volunteers per shift, 2-3 hours per shift. Tentative shift breakdown follows. 

 

Thurs: 4-7, 7-10 (two 3-hr shifts)

Fri: 4-6, 6-9, 9-11 (two 2-hr shifts, one 3-hr)

Sat: 11-2, 2-5, 5-8, 8-11 (four 3-hr shifts)

Today! 

Community Resource Fair & Movie Night - Friday, Sept. 23rd. 

Between 10-20 volunteers are needed for the Community Resource Fair and Movie Night to be held at Cardoza Park on Friday, September 23, 2016 that is happening between 5pm and 8pm. They will need help with set up, assistance during the resource fair, and help cleaning up afterwards. No training is required. Volunteers for the "Our Food is Medicine" event on Saturday, September 24th are needed! Volunteers are needed to help with setting up the room, registering people, serving food and cleaning up. On the day of the event, there will be 2 shifts: 11am-1pm and 1:30-3:30pm.

This event will take place at 1381 S. First Street, San Jose Ca 95110.

The Sunnyhills Neighborhood Association (SNA) is looking for volunteers to help us deliver our October newsletter and to help man our annual Halloween party.  If you know of any students looking for community service hours, please call (408-942-1418).  Newsletters are hand delivered by adults & students to houses in the Sunnyhills area (areas that surround the high school).  Routes range from 30-90 houses and usually take about a minute a house to deliver--if one walks slowly.  SNA, a qualified 501(c)3 non-profit, offers community service hours to students using the minute a house formula and rounds the students time up to the nearest hour.  So if there are 30-60 houses in the route the student gets credit for an hour of community service, if the route is 61-90 houses they receive two hours of service. 

 

6th Annual Teen Volunteer  Fair - This is taking place Saturday, Sept. 24th, 2016 from 9am to 12pm. at Lexus of Stevens Creek (3333 Stevens Creek Blvd. San Jose, CA 95117).  This is an opportunity to meet representatives from local agencies and charities and see what opportunities are out in the community for you!  Students who attend can also enter to win an Ipad Mini 2!  Come check out all the possible opportunities of places to volunteer at in the greater community.

The California Coastal Commission is having their Coastal Cleanup Day on September 17, 2016 from 9am to 12noon. Littered butts end up on our coast and waterways where they release lead, arsenic, and other harmful chemicals. Help get them out of their waterways. There are many sites to volunteer at during the Coastal Cleanup.  Sign up to volunteer today! Volunteers for the "Our Food is Medicine" event on Saturday, September 24th are needed! Volunteers are needed to help with setting up the room, registering people, serving food and cleaning up. On the day of the event, there will be 2 shifts: 11am-1pm and 1:30-3:30pm.

This event will take place at 1381 S. First Street, San Jose Ca 95110.

Between 10-20 volunteers are needed for the Community Resource Fair and Movie Night to be held at Cardoza Park on Friday, September 23, 2016 that is happening between 5pm and 8pm. They will need help with set up, assistance during the resource fair, and help cleaning up afterwards. No training is required. Students Needed:  24 (preferably Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese speaking students)

 

Description:  Assist in data collection.  We would like students to help us type into a spreadsheet, using Chromebooks.  They will be collecting data such as parent email, cell telephone numbers, and whether or not they have home Internet.  This will help Randall staff develop better school-to-home communications regarding school events, services, etc.

Please review the following information and attached resources for facts about the Zika virus, ways to protect yourselves, and ideas for talking to your children about Zika. 

Steps to help protect against mosquito bites:

  • Long-sleeved shirts and long pants Recommended Actions 

  • Clothing and gear treated with permethrin that will provide an added layer of protection

  • Lightweight, loose fitting clothing during the warmer months. When wearing longer sleeves and pants, take additional steps to prevent heat-related illnesses(for example, drink additional water and take rest breaks)
  • Use air conditioning or window/door screens to keep mosquitoes outside. If you are not able to protect yourself from mosquitoes inside your home or hotel, sleep under a mosquito bed net.

Parent-Guardian-Student Orientation for New Students
Wednesday, August 10,  6:30–8:00 pm, Theater/Green/School Tour

Parents/Guardians of students new to Milpitas High School will meet in the MHS Theater for general information about high school life, presented by MHS administrators.  While this is going on, new students will meet on the green in front of the Theater where our wonderful MHS leadership students will get them pumped up for the new school year and give them a tour of the school.

Attention Seniors: Graduation tickets will be distributed on May 17 through May 20, 2016 from 3 pm - 4 pm after school at the attendance/counseling office windows. You must show your picture ID (Driver's license or school) and have your Senior Pledge turned in before you can receive tickets. 

 

Graduation Practice:  June 2, 2016   9:00 am - 12:00 pm.. 

 

Diplomas Distribution:   June 2, 2016  Attendance/Counseling windows 12:30 pm-2:30 pm.  Picture ID must be shown at time of pick up.

 

Fines/Books:  All fines must be paid and books turned in. If books or fines are outstanding a diploma will not be issued until the matter is resolved.

 

Graduation:  June 2, 2106,  6:30 pm
